Japanese marques Toyota and Lexus may be among the most reliable brands for years but that doesn’t mean they are not immune from issues, as proven by the fact that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has reported three safety recalls for over 300,000 Toyota and Lexus cars.
The first recall involves approximately 280,000 cars, consisting of 2022-2024 Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid, 2023-2024 Sequoia, and 2022-2024 Lexus LX 600 models.
Faulty transmission components may not immediately disengage when the vehicle is shifted to neutral. As such, some engine power could still be transferred to the wheels in neutral, increasing the risk of a crash. The three models use the same 10-speed automatic gearbox from Aisin, a Japanese automotive parts manufacturer that also supplies gearboxes to the likes of Porsche and Jeep.
