In our first drive of the larger L models with the Hurricane power plant, we found the six-cylinder smooth and responsive. Yes, the characteristic V8 growl that many prefer in a large SUV is gone, but the i6 makes its own pleasing sound.
Superior gas mileage is a major benefit of the Hurricane engine. It can manage up to 20 mpg combined in the Wagoneer, 2 mpg better than the less powerful 5.7-liter Hemi V8. Overall, the Hurricane mill is up to 15% more efficient than the V8s.
There is a similar gas mileage saving for the Grand Wagoneer. This model was previously available with the larger 6.4-liter V8, a gas guzzler that managed just 15 mpg combined. With the Hurricane, it returns 17 mpg combined with four-wheel drive.
No other changes have been made to the Wagoneer for the 2024 model year. It still offers a towing capacity of up to 10,000 pounds, a Quadra-Lift air suspension with up to ten inches of ground clearance, and seating for up to eight occupants.
